ROSEBUD LAKOTA SUNDANCE KITCHEN SUPPORT
Hey there, thanks for taking the time to read about our efforts and prayers. This is the fourth year now that I'll be running this kitchen and I couldn't be more proud of the ways this kitchen has evolved to feed more and more people healthy food every year up at the Rosebud Lakota Sundance ceremony at Crowdog's Paradise.
The ceremony begins on the last full moon in July and we usually begin our fundraising efforts a few months prior to purchase food to bring with us to feed what started four years ago as the firekeepers exclusively... We now feed the firekeepers, workers, sundancers, supporters, singers, many many many children and local families and elders, chiefs and their families, anyone who walks by hungry! and in this coming year we have agreed to take on the entire medic staff as well. We will need to raise more money than we ever have, as we bring organic whole foods to sustain everyone's energy during the entirety of the two weeks we're up there camping and supporting the prayer.
Our kitchen and our lives are outside for those two weeks, without phone service, without running water or facilities. We build our camp each year with pop up tents, tarps, propane stoves and we haul our water overhead in jugs from down the road. We wash our dishes in buckets and we clean up constantly to keep the flies at bay to keep everyone healthy. With all this being said, it is the best two weeks of the year for us - and - we work very hard to contribute in the ways that we do, but we need your help.
Your donation will go directly to the kitchen... to purchase two new pop up tents. Ours were destroyed during rain storms this past year. We purchase things like: organic meat, frozen and fresh produce, canned beans and big bags of rice, oatmeal, peanut butter, 20 dozen eggs from Bear Butte Farm in Sturgis, canned tomatoes to make sauces and chili... we do the best we can to keep everyone well fed and satiated. Once food is purchased and we're up there, donations go to things like ice and shop excursions for locals who need things like soap and shampoo and clothing for themselves and their children.
Please consider donating to keep this prayer and these people strong and healthy as they/we pray for the world and humankind in the ways of the Lakota people.
*A big thank you to Nicole, Vincenzo and William for your efforts over the past few years to keep this kitchen strong. I couldn't do it without you guys. It wouldn't be what it is if it weren't for each of your unique contributions.
